How to Be Irish in Philly

How to Be Irish in Philly this Week

More live Irish tunes this week, and looking out into the not too distant future, one of the Jersey Shore’s great Irish events is back.

Here’s what’s up:

Friday, May 21

Singer-guitarist Seamus Kelleher is performing at Bucks County Brewery and Hewn Spirits starting at 5:30 p.m. Bucks County Brewery is at 31 Appletree Lane in Pipersville.

Jamison Celtic Rock takes the stage at Sweeney’s, 13639 Philmont Avenue in Philadelphia. It’ll be the last full band gig in Philly until the fall. The show starts at 7 p.m. Reservations recommended: (215) 677-3177.

Saturday, May 22

The Irish Diaspora Center, working through its CHAT committee, which focuses on mental health issues in the Philly Irish community, hosts Mindful in May, an afternoon of mental health-related services and activities at Merry Place, 600 Glendale Road in Havertown. The event runs from 12 noon to 3 p.m. It’s all outdoors, and the weather promises to be warm and dry. There will be refreshments and activities for the kiddies.

And from 3 to 7 p.m., up in the great Northeast, John Byrne and Andy Keenan will perform at Paddy Whack’s Pub, 9241 Roosevelt Boulevard (at Welsh Road).

Seamus Kelleher is back, this time at the Wooden Match in Bethlehem, 61 West Lehigh Street, starting at 7 p.m.

Sunday, May 23

Frank Daly, front man for Jamison, will be playing at the Ashburner Inn, 8400 Torresdale Avenue in Northeast Philly, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Looking ahead a bit …

John Byrne performs at 118 North—it’s dinner and a show—on Saturday, June 5. You’ll find the place at 118 North Wayne Avenue in Wayne.

And looking WAY ahead …

The North Wildwood Irish Fall Festival will be back September 24, 25 and 26 after a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic. Mark your calendars. That’s it for now. Have fun this week—and see you next time around.
