How to Be Irish in Philly

How To Be Irish in Philly This Week

There are a couple of benefits coming up this weekend before Thanksgiving. First, on Saturday, the Philadelphia Irish Open Golf tournament takes place at Cobbs Creek Golf Course in Philadelphia. It will raise money for the Tansey family, formerly of Mayo, who lost their home, belongings, and pets in an house fire.

Gabriel Donohue, Raymond McGroary, Seamus Kelleher, Bill Donohue, Raymond Coleman, and Diarmuid MacDuibhne will be singing and playing their hearts out to raise money on Sunday for the Philadelphia Sunday Irish radio shows on WTMR 800 AM. It all takes place at The Dubliner on the Delaware in New Hope, starting at 1 PM.

The Hot House Flowers’ Liam O’ Maonlai will be doing a house concert in Philly on Wednesday, but we’ve heard that it’s sold out. Check our Facebook page to check for cancellations.

On Friday, the band Next Wednesday will be doing a roundup of the best of U2 and the Rolling Stones at Tom & Jerry’s Sports Pub on McDade Boulevard in Folsom.

Then, on Saturday, November 28, The Donegal Society is holding its 127th annual Ball and selecting the 2016 Philadelphia Mary from Dungloe at the Irish Center in Mt. Airy.

Coming up on the first of December, Celtic Thunder’s Emmett O’Hanlon will be at the Hard Rock Café in Philadelphia, doing holiday favorites and other tunes. Thunderhead alert!

Also coming up: American Celtic Christmas, an extravaganza featuring a variety of musical genres and dancing, at the Bensalem High School on December 5. There’s a matinee and an evening show. And The John Byrne Band will be performing at The Tin Angel in Philly the night before, featuring songs from their new Christmas EP. More about that next week!
