This week’s roundup includes a couple of activities for the kids that are really guaranteed to help them learn how to be Irish. Of course, there’s a lot for the rest of us, too.
First, a couple of quick reminders:
Tonight, try your luck at LAOH Division 87 Our Lady of Knock, 2171 Wakeling Street in Philly’s Port Richmond neighborhood, by playing Mystery Prize Bingo. It’ll cost you $35 for 10 rounds of bingo, desserts and coffee. BYOB and snacks. The event is from 7 to 10 p.m.

Also tonight from 7 to 10, you can catch Timlin and Kane at Brittingham’s, 640 East Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill. Those who have seen and heard Timlin and Kane know they’re a fun night. If you’re in that neck of the woods, do drop by.
On to the rest of your week:
Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m., take your own bad self and your thirst to The Red Rooster Inn, 7960 Dungan Road in Northeast Philadelphia, for the annual Guest Bartending fund-raiser. The event is hosted by LAOH Division 25, and supports Philly Phaces, which benefits children, adults and families living with cleft lips and palates, and other craniofacial differences in the Philadelphia area. There’ll be a Chinese auction and 50-50. Music by Celtic Connection.
Also Saturday, from 7 to 9, the Cummins School of Irish Dance hosts Trivia Night at Glenside VFW, 2519 Jenkintown Road in Glenside. $25 includes buffet, beer and wine.
Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. is Children’s Story Hour at the Irish Immigration Center of Greater Philadelphia, 7 S. Cedar Lane in Upper Darby. The kids will be treated to a Valentine’s Day celebration with an Irish angle, including stories and poems, followed by arts and crafts. Story hour is geared toward children 3 to 8.
Catch a film screening and discussion of the movie “Black ‘47” by Fulbright teacher and scholar, Dr. Kerron Ó Luain. It’s on Wednesday night at Villanova University, 800 East Lancaster Avenue, in Villanova. The film and discussion will be held in the Bryn Mawr Room, Connelly Center, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Next Saturday, February 16, you’re invited to the Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund Annual Social at Philadelphia FOP Lodge 5, 11630 Caroline Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The event takes place from 7 to 11 p.m. Dance to the tunes of DJ Bob Sacco. It’s $40 per person (bottled beer included), and tickets are available at the door. The fund helps provide scholarships to children in Philadelphia who need help to go to high school.
Also next Saturday and Sunday, Gael Scoil will take place at Notre Dame High School at 601 Lawrence Road in Lawrenceville, N.J. The two-day event is geared toward teaching kids 6 through 17 about Ireland. There will be classes in music, language, food, history, Gaelic sports and more. Register here: http://www.gaelscoil.us.
