Big doings this week for those of an Irish inclination. (You, that is.) There’s music, Gaelic games and, for those with a great thirst, a whiskey tasting.

Friday, August 6
Galway Guild performs at Marty Magee’s in the Beer Garden, starting at 7 p.m. Marty Magee’s is at 1110 Lincoln Avenue in Prospect Park. A good night for Irish tunes.
And the John Byrne Band holds forth at an usual but nonetheless cool venue, the rooftop at Kennett Square Parking Garage, 100 East Linden Street, beginning at 7 p.m. This is a rescheduled concert from Saturday, May 29. Bring your own chair, with socially distanced pod seating for groups. Masks are required. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks allowed, no booze, no coolers. If you’re into traditional Irish music, check into the Commodore John Barry Arts and Cultural Center (the Irish Center), 6815 Emlen Street in Mount Airy, at 8 p.m. for the First Friday Session. Bring your Irish musical instrument and take part in the fun. (And if you don’t play, just go listen.) Masks are required, vaccinated or not.
Saturday, August 7
It’s family fun day, plus great Gaelic athletics at the Philadelphia Gaelic Association’s Limerick field. Family fun day starts at 10 a.m. Hurling begins at 2 p.m., followed by camogie (that’s hurling for women) at 3:30 p.m. You’ll find the field (look for the cooling towers), off Route 422. The address is 945 Longview Road, Limerick. (Intersection of Longview and Sanatoga.)
The River Drivers bring their tunes to Bethlehem’s famed Musikfest, starting at 1:30 p.m. Want to go? Information here.
If you’re down the shore, Jamison Celtic Rock takes the stage at Seaport Pier, 2201 Boardwalk in North Wildwood, starting at 8 p.m. and chugging along ‘til midnight.
Sunday, August 8

And if you’d like to imbibe and bring to mind County Donegal at the same time, let us recommend a whiskey tasting and dinner, sponsored by the Irish Diaspora Center, at The Crossbar, 2225 Darby Road in Havertown. It starts at 7 p.m. Representatives of Donegal’s Sliabh Liag Distillers will run the tasting, featuring Silkie Irish Whiskey. It’s their first tasting in the U.S..
