We’re just a week into May, and events are popping up all over. Listen to live music, catch a Facebook Live concert by one of the planet’s best bands, or put your own musical talents to the test.
Here’s what’s on:
Friday, May 7
Seamus McGroary takes the First Friday stage at Henry James Saloon, 577 Jamestown Avenue in Philadelphia, from 6 to 9 p.m.
It’s also First Friday for Neil Mac Thiarnáin & Moira at the New Deck Tavern, 3408 Sansom Street in University City, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 8
The fabulous Screaming Orphans are back with an online concert, starting at 5 p.m. This Facebook Live concert is billed as the “346 Days Later” concert. You’ll find all the details here. Probably the first time we heard them was at the Midwinter Scottish & Irish Festival in Valley Forge, years ago, and they are one energetic band. If you haven’t heard them before, give them a listen.
Also starting at 5 p.m., Raymond Coleman drops by the Krick Wuder Saloon & Restaurant, 2676 Bridge Street in Philly.
From 7 to 11 p.m., catch Joe Mullin at O’Mare’s, 10253 Bustleton Avenue in the Northeast.
Friday, May 14
Got a song in your heart? An Irish song, in particular? Think you can sing it better than anyone else? Put your voice to the test at the Irish Idol Singing Contest at Hanrahan’s Irish Pub, 690 Burmont Road in Upper Darby, starting at 7 p.m. Duos are welcome.
If you need guitar accompaniment, they’ll provide it. Plaques and prizes will be awarded.
Twelve to 15 contestants are needed, and you’ll need to provide a brief bio.
Contact Mike Concannon on Facebook or email him at irish2hours@gmail.com. Let’s hear what you’ve got. Give Shane MacGowan a run for his money!
That’s it for this week! Take care.
