St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. And although it won’t be the kind of St. Patrick’s Day we’re all used to, you can tell by all the events leading up to the day that it’s probably going to be better than you expected.
So here’s what’s coming up this week:
Friday, March 5
Seamus McGroary will be performing at Henry James Saloon, 577 Jamestown Avenue in Philly, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Neil Mac Thiarnáin and Moira Fanning return to the New Deck Tavern, 3408 Sansom Street in University, today at 6:30 p.m.
A bit later on, starting at 7 p.m., it’s Frank Daly of Jamison Celtic Rock in a solo act at Nick’s Roast Beef, 4501 Woodhaven Road West in Northeast Philadelphia. All CDC guidelines will be observed. (This’ll be the case for all the live events listed here.)
Saturday, March 6
Jamison Celtic Rock appears at Renault Winery Resort and Golf, 72 North Bremen Avenue in Egg Harbor City, N.J., from noon to 6 p.m. That’s a nice, long set. That will be followed by Frank Daly and Jamison fiddler Alice Marie, from 8 p.m. to midnight at Haggerty’s Café, 2373 MacDade Boulevard in Holmes, Pa. A very busy day for those folks. You might also look for them tearing up Atlantic City Expressway.
Sunday, March 7
Frank Daly and Alice Mary appear again, this time at Tom N Jerry’s Sports Pub, 1006 MacDade Boulevard in Folsom, Pa., from 4 to 8 p.m.
And The Shantys take the stage at Gaul and Company Malthouse, 704 Huntingdon Pike in Rockledge, starting at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, March 10
This week’s major event—Shamrock Aid 2021—is a benefit for the Philly St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Irish Society of Philadelphia, and 298, Inc., the charitable arm of IBEW Local 98. The event will be livestreamed by IATSE Local 8 technicians (the stagehands union) over the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade Facebook page. We’ve got a big story this week providing all the details. If you want to look in—and we strongly advise that you do—they’ll be taking donations. Give generously. Normally, around this time of year, if not earlier, we’d be up to our keisters in fundraisers, but it’s just not happening. So here’s your chance to help local Irish charities from the comfort of your own home.
Frank Daly appears at St. Patrick’s 2020 Make-Up Day at Harrigan’s Pub, 1051 West County Line Road in Warminster, from 8 to 11 p.m.
Thursday, March 11
The Newtown Irish Festival kicks off at the Green Parrot Restaurant, Pub and Patio, 240 North Sycamore Street, in Newtown, Bucks County. Starting at 6 p.m., it’s the Jimmy B Fiddle Mix. Don’t forget to pick up your St. Patrick’s Day 2021 Guinness Engraved Glass.
Friday, March 12
The Newtown Irish Festival continues, starting at 5 p.m. with performances by Fitzpatrick Irish Dance. After that, from 6 to 9 p.m., it’s the great singer-guitarist Seamus Kelleher.
Frank Daly and Alice Marie return. They’ll be at the Kensington Pub, 2116 East Tioga Street in Philly, from 8 to 11 p.m.
And that’s it for this week. It’s a lot. But wait till the following week. It’s a doozy. For now, take care and be safe.
