It’s a big week for Philly’s Irish, with a fair amount of in-person activities—a welcome respite, we’re sure.
Here’s what’s up:
Friday, October 2
Two events tonight; one virtual, one not.
First, there’s the virtually famous Raymond Coleman, showing up at Dooney’s Pub & Restaurant, 154 NJ-73 in the Cedar Hill Shopping Center, Voorhees, N.J., starting at 6 p.m. A guaranteed good time.

Saturday, October 3
It’s Shantytoberfest Irish night at Cannstatter’s Volkfest Verein, 9130 Academy Road in Philly’s Northeast, starting at 5 p.m. Featuring the Shantys, of course. Admission is free. Bring your mask.
Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4
It’s Celtic Weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Festival, 2775 Lebanon Road in Manheim, Pa., each day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Because of COVID-19, tickets for each day must be purchased online in advance: http://www.parenfaire.com/buytickets.html. Take in the Highland games, pipers, Celtic tchotchkes, men in kilts competition (if you have the legs for it), a freckles contest (a lot of our readers should be in the running), a whiskey tasting, and more. All the usual precautions, of course.
Tuesday, October 6
The Commodore Barry Arts and Cultural Center (also known as the Irish Center) hosts an American Red Cross Blood Drive. The Irish Center is at the corner of Carpenter and Emlen Streets in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. Starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 1 p.m. To donate, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit www.RedCrossBlood.org and enter Commodore Barry Club to schedule an appointment.
Friday, October 9
Catch Jamison Celtic Rock live in concert at Nick’s Roast Beef, 4501 Woodhaven Road in Northeast Philly, starting at 6 p.m.
And you can see “Heart of Camden: The Story of Father Michael Doyle” in a pop-up drive-in movie, Cooper’s Poynt Park in Camden, N.J. It’s hosted by The Heart of Camden, and the lot opens at 6:30 p.m. Show at dusk. Tickets are $30, available at www.fatherdoylemovie.eventbrite.com. Narrated by Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Martin Sheen, the show starts at dusk. Tickets include popcorn and water. Social distancing and mask-wearing guidelines to be followed.
Presented by the Heart of Camden, all proceeds benefit the Heart of Camden and their neighbors in Waterfront South.
