We have a packed week for you, featuring live concerts—isn’t it wonderful to have them—culminating in the virtual Philadelphia Ceili Group Festival. (That’s right—they’re continuing the tradition, and no pandemic will stop them.)

Friday, September 4
Join fiddler Philly-area native Caitlin Finley and flutist/uilleann piper Will Goodson for a cocktail hour and a half, live on Facebook. (As always, tips are appreciated.) Catch them here:

Saturday, September 5
Treat yourself to An Afternoon with Alice Marie, live at Stargazers Vineyard and Winery, 1024 Wheatland Drive in Coatesville, starting at 1 p.m. Alice Marie is best known locally as the fiddler for Jamison Celtic Rock. Nosh on cheese and charcuterie from Doe Run Catering. Call ahead to reserve a table—610-486-0422—or pack your lawn chairs.
Later on, at 4 p.m., the Kilted Rogues will take the stage at the Ventnor City Summer Beach Jam, Newport Avenue Beach in Ventnor City, N.J. The Kilted Rogues perform Scottish, Irish and popular tunes with pipes and drums.
Tuesday, September 8
Join a ZOOM meeting on Genealogy and Privacy Concerns, sponsored by the Irish Diaspora Center, starting at 11 a.m. Join our genealogists and friends every Tuesday for the ZOOM self-help group. Bill McCray will discuss Genealogy and Privacy Concerns. This event will focus on GEDMatch and the Golden State Killer case. If you want to take part, sign up by emailing nicola@idcphila.org.

Thursday, September 10-Saturday, September 12
The Philadelphia Ceili Group presents its annual festival virtually, with musical performances by some of the best traditional Irish musicians on the planet, including master fiddler Kevin Burke, Haley Richardson, fiddler of Riverdance (you might have seen her on the recent PBS broadcast), the great Mick Moloney and guests, singer Mary Courtney, harpers Grainne Hambly and Billy Jackson, uilleann piper par excellence Tim Britton, and many, many more, plus several workshops, a Rambling House and a singers’ session. Saturday, September 12
It’s Commodore Barry Day, which means a ceremony and wreath-laying by the Ancient Order of Hibernians at the Barry Monument at the Commodore Barry Bridge in Bridgeport, N.J., starting at 11 a.m. There’s free parking next to the Delaware River Port Authority Administration Building. Masks are required; so is social distancing.
Later on, Jamison Celtic Rock plays outdoors at Tom n’ Jerrys, 1006 MacDade Boulevard in Ridley. The music starts at 6 p.m.
