How to Be Irish in Philly

How to Be Irish in Philly This Week

We have a few items on tap for this week, including one event that is an absolute must for anyone who cares about the future of the Commodore Barry Arts and Cultural Center—more commonly known simply as the Irish Center, a beloved institution in the city’s Mount Airy section.

Let’s get right down to it.

Saturday, August 22

You’re invited to attend an Our Lady of Knock Virtual Mass at 9 a.m. Father Ken Hallahan will celebrate. The special feast day Mass will be streamed live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GloucesterCountyAOH.

Satisfy your craving for traditional Irish music with a Virtual Behan Session, live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/virtualbehansession. The tunes start at 5 p.m.

Monday, August 24

Here’s the event you’ve been waiting for—a chance to take in some great music and help support the Irish Center. It’s a special live-streamed concert with the inimitable John Byrne. The pandemic hit the Irish Center hard, causing the cancellation of countless events, all of which keep the place afloat. A recent fund-raiser has helped considerably, but John is asking you to chip in some more. Every little bit helps. The live Facebook show starts at 7:30 p.m. Check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/41559369838. Donations will be accepted via PayPal and Venmo.

And that’s it for this week.

And remember, we check our Facebook page regularly for events to include in How to Be Irish, so if you want to be included, make sure you’re posting here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/41559369838

Stay safe!
