Some of what’s on this week—but not everything—is virtual. That’s the way things go these pandemic days. But that doesn’t mean these events are not still fun. (Of course they are!)
So here is what’s happening:
Friday, August 7
Sweeney’s Philadelphia, 13639 Philmont Avenue, hosts ELEVEN starting at 6:30 p.m. out on the outdoor patio.
The First Friday Traditional Irish Music Session, typically held in The Before Times at the Irish Center, tonight goes completely virtual via Zoom, starting at 8 p.m. To take part, direct message Hollis Payer from her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hollis.payer.
Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8
The in-person Goderich Celtic Roots Festival is canceled this year, for all the obvious reasons, but the show must and will go on—on Facebook. And there are great reasons for tuning in, not least of which is two appearances by our own local supergroup, RUNA. The first opportunity is tonight, starting in the 10 p.m. slot. (The whole evening’s entertainment starts at 7 p.m., so you can catch lots of other acts, too—even a ukulele lesson.)
RUNA returns Saturday night at 5. Before that, you can also catch the wondrous Cherish the Ladies, starting in the 2 p.m. slot.
To watch, you’ll need to be on Facebook: www.facebook.com/goderichceltic.
Sunday, August 9
Jamison goes all acoustic again at Keenan’s Irish Pub, 113 Olde New Jersey Ave, North Wildwood, starting at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, August 11
The terrific John Byrne Band headlines the 2020 Gloucester City Summer Concert Series. Opening act: Michael Tearson. Starts at 7 p.m. at 235 South King Street, Gloucester City, N.J.
That’s all the Irish news that’s fit to print. We’ll see you next time. Until then, do your level best to stay safe.
