Welcome to HTBI, or as we like to think of it this week, party central.
Two events tonight:
First, it’s Parents’ Night Out, a Dine and Donate and Adults’ Night Out at Jerzee’s Sports Bar in Glenside, sponsored by the Glenside Gaelic Club. All you have to do (besides having fun) is mention Glenside Gaelic Club when ordering in (or ordering takeout), and 20 percent of the proceeds go to the club. It all starts at 5 p.m. Music by Raymond McGroary begins at 8:30. There’s a $10 charge at the door that will also support the club.
Second, catch a couple of stellar acts tonight at Marty Magee’s, a great watering hole at 1110 Lincoln Avenue in Prospect Park. Stephen Anthony debuts at 6 p.m., followed by Kevin O’Shea at 10, continuing on into the wee hours.
Tomorrow, if you’re heading down the shore, the Sean Fleming Band will be performing at the iconic Anglesea Pub, 116 West 1stAvenue in North Wildwood. The show starts at 9 p.m.
Haven’t seen Gaelic football or hurling? You have a terrific chance to see both Sunday at the Philadelphia Gaelic Athletic Association field in Limerick. The games start at 11 a.m.
In the junior football final, it’s the Delco Gaels against Donegal, followed by two Jersey teams, South Jersey Rebels vs Jersey Shore. And after that, time for hurling as Allentown faces off against Na Toraidhe. The senior final starts at 3:30 p.m., with Donegal taking the field with the Young Irelands.
The field is at 945 Longview Road, in Pottstown.
This coming Friday, John and Seamus McGroary headline happy hour at Hanrahan’s Irish Pub, 690 Burmont Road in Drexel Hill. The tunes start at 6 p.m.
While we’re here, one more reminder that the Philadelphia Ceili Group Festival is just around the corner, September 12-14. It’s a weekend full of Irish music, dance, workshops, crafts and more. Tony DeMarco’s Atlantic Wave headlines the Saturday night show. It all takes place at the Commodore Barry Arts & Cultural Center (the Irish Center), 6815 Emlen Street in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. You can find out a whole lot more here.
That’s it for now. See you next week!
