A busy weekend ahead for Irish goings-on. Let’s get right down to it.
On Saturday, it’s time for the Charlie Dunlop Memorial Fund Golf Outing at Cobbs Creek Golf Course, 7400 Lansdowne Avenue in Philadelphia, with a shotgun start of 1 p.m.
The Charlie Dunlop Memorial Fund helps people who have run into financial difficulty due to illness, death, or loss of income through no fault of their own. The fund has helped 65 families or individuals over the past six years, to the tune of more than $150,000.
There will be prizes for closest to the pin on all par threes and longest drive on 7 and 11. Entry fee is $100 per player, and includes light snacks, dinner, golf and prizes.

If you’re into scavenger hunts, the Dames Dash might just be for you.
It starts Saturday at the Fox & Hound, 1501 Spruce Street, in Center City, with registration between 2 and 3 p.m. You’ll spend your afternoon roving the city looking for clues and completing various challenges.
The actual dash is between 3 and 7 p.m., with an after-party scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m.
You’ll need a smartphone, a bag for holding items you collect along the way, and extra cash for buying things. The dress code is comfy—team outfits are encouraged. This is a 21 and older event.
Also Saturday, if you’re up for a little road trip, check out the 17th Annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival, at the Markets at Shrewsbury, 12025 Susquehanna Trail in Glen Rock, York County. The day-long event starts at 10:30 a.m.
The festival features traditional and contemporary live Irish music, with dancers from Pennsylvania and Maryland, plus plenty of Irish food, vendors, workshops, and activities for the kids.
On Sunday, head on down to The Rosenbach for Bloomsday 2019. Bloomsday commemorates Leopold Bloom’s journey through Dublin in James Joyce’s “Ulysses.” The day-long reading of “Ulysses” will feature a host of notables, everyone from artists to public figures to familiar personalities, punctuated here and there by musical performances.
It all starts at 11 a.m. The Rosenbach is at 2008-2010 Delancey Place in Center City.
Leaping ahead to next Saturday, make sure you save room on your social calendar for the Havertown Irish Festival at the Manoa Shopping Center, 1305 West Chester Pike in Havertown, starting at 12 noon. We were there last year and trust us—it’s a great time. This is the third year for the festival, which features a day of great music, dance, special guests, food, vendors and children’s activities—including all the inflatables they really love.
Admission is free (though a $3 donation is requested).
Proceeds benefit music education and the Kelly Center for Music, Arts and Community in Havertown.
