Glenside Gaelic Club kicks off its season with a beef and beer Saturday night from 8 to 11 at Our Lady Help of Christians School, 1500 Marian Road in Abington. Pay $35 in advance or $40 at the door. You’ll get a lot for your money. First off, music by the fabulous Raymond McGroary, with beer, wine and food included. On Sunday, check into The Plough & the Stars for a night of Irish rebel ballads and traditional tunes with One Shot Paddy, with Brent Hopper from West Awake/Mary’s Lane as a special guest. One Shot Paddy is Garry Gormley on guitar and vocals and Brent Hopper, guitar, mandolin and vocals. The show runs from 6 to 9 p.m. The Plough is on Second Street between Market and Chestnut.
You can help out Ancient Order of Hibernians charities and save yourself a little mealtime trouble with a Good Friday Fish Fry. Each dinner includes fried fish, potatoes, vegetables and scones. You need to order in advance before Wednesday—plates are pickup only—and you can collect your meals at Nunan-Slook American Legion Post 338, 2200 Grasslyn Avenue in Havertown. It’s $15 a plate.
