One of the most exciting highlights of the Philly Irish calendar is set to step off this week. It’s Dancing Like a Star, a great competition to benefit the Delaware County Gaels Youth GAA Club. Details on that in a few moments.
But before that happens …
There’s a fundraiser Saturday sponsored by one of the dance teams—Team Red, a/k/a Tommy Higgins and Heather Crossan—at McKenna’s Kitchen and Market, 1901 Darby Road in Havertown. It’s a delectable brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and part of the proceeds will go to the Delco Gaels and helps Team Red in Dancing Like a Star. Go and strap on the old feedbag for a worthy cause.
Later that day, from 7 to 11 p.m., support the Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund at its annual social, held at FOP Lodge 5, 11630 Caroline Road in Philly’s Great Northeast. Tickets are available at the door and cost $40. This is yet another terrific cause: helping to support scholarships to help needy children in Philadelphia go to high school.
On Thursday, the Irish traditional supergroup Téada takes the stage at Sellersville Theater, 24 West Temple Avenue in Sellersville. You won’t want to miss this one. Now, this week’s main event. Dancing Like a Star showcases the high-stepping skills of some of the area’s local talent. This is one fun night.
It’s at the Springfield Country Club, 400 West Sproul Road, in Springfield, Delaware County, on Friday, February 22, starting at 7:30 p.m. For your $50 admission, you get a buffet dinner and unforgettable entertainment.
