If you like bingo and other games, this is your week.
Let’s start with a quick reminder. There’s a cash bingo tonight at St. George’s Church, 1 West Ardmore Avenue in Ardmore, to benefit the Irish Immigration Center of Greater Philadelphia’s Foróige Youth Club. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets $35. There will be 10 games and raffles. BYOB.
On Friday, you can try your luck at Mystery Prize Bingo, sponsored by Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 87 Our Lady of Knock, at 2171 Wakeling Street in Philly’s Port Richmond neighborhood. Tickets are 35 bucks and include 10 rounds of bingo, bringing you 10 chances to win cool mystery prizes valued at $100 each. The event includes coffee and desserts. BYOB and snacks. Next Saturday, starting at 7 p.m., you can test your knowledge of more or less everything at Cummins School Trivia Night, Glenside VFW Hall, at 2519 Jenkintown Road in Glenside. $25 includes buffet, beer and wine.
On, now, to all the other fun stuff going on this week. It’s a full calendar, so lots of opportunities to get out and support Irish musicians, venues and causes.
We’ll start with Saturday night. One of Philly’s many great Irish musicians, John Byrne, takes his act on the road to Burlap and Bean, 204 South Newtown Street Road in Newtown Square. It’s a stripped-down show of original tunes. For tickets, go to burlapandbean.com/events. The show starts at 8.
Also on Saturday, Seamus and CJ embark upon their “World Tour” of Northeast Philly. See them Saturday at Paddy Whacks from 3 to 7 p.m., and at Curran’s Tacony from 9 p.m. until the wee hours. Then on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., catch them at Ashburner Inn.
On Sunday, strap on your dancing shoes for set dancing at Xavier Hall Westville Square, 201 Broadway in Westville, N.J. The dancing starts at 1:30 p.m. CD and occasional live music. Tea and coffee will be provided. Sweets are very welcome, of course.
More dancing on Tuesday, with ceili dance lessons by Bobby Graham. The foot-stomping starts at 7 p.m. at Annunciation BVM Church Hall, Wexford Road and Brookline Boulevard in Havertown.
Thursday night at 8 p.m., Toronto-based Enter the Haggis rolls into World Café Live, 3025 Walnut Street in Philly. Not Irish—but they’re Celtic rock, which is close enough. Rock, as in bagpipes and fiddle integrated into classic rock and roll. They’re a party. Doors open at 7.
Finally, next Saturday, February 9, from 3-7 p.m., head to The Red Rooster Inn, 7960 Dungan Road in Northeast Philadelphia, for the annual Guest Bartending fund-raiser. The event is hosted by LAOH Division 25, and supports Philly Phaces, which benefits children, adults and families living with cleft lips and palates, and other craniofacial differences in the Philadelphia area. There’ll be a Chinese auction and 50-50. Music by Celtic Connection.
