We’re publishing early this week on the theory that a lot of us are still recovering from Turkey Day. I don’t know about you, but a long nap might be in order. Opening emails might be the last thing you do on Friday.
Besides, there’s a lot going on, and for some of it, the sooner you hear about it, the better.

One quick note: Tickets to the Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones concert at the MacSwiney Club in Jenkintown, Pa. were sold out when we checked Tuesday.

The 130th Annual Philadelphia Donegal Ball is Saturday, November 24, at the Irish Center, featuring the selection of the 2019 Mary From Dungloe. Music to be provided by The John “Lefty” Kelly Band from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $25 per person, $20 for students. Dinner is available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at an additional charge. Also Saturday, check out Pogues Night with the John Byrne Band at Tir na nOg Bar & Grill, 1600 Arch Street in Center City Philadelphia. The band promises a full night (9 to midnight) of Pogues and Shane McGowan tunes.
John Byrne is at it again on Sunday from 4:30 to 7, leading the ballad session at Fergie’s, 1214 Sansom Street, also in Center City.
Tuesday, November 27, Irish Christmas in America is on stage at Sellersville Theater 1894, 24 West Temple Avenue in Sellersville, Pa. We interviewed fiddler and producer Oisín Mac Diarmada last week. Irish Christmas in America is always a popular show, a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Some of the finest Irish musicians will perform seasonal Irish tunes and ballads and present some thrilling Irish dance. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8. Details and ticket info here.
Come out and meet the 2017 and 2018 Football All Stars at a Meet and Greet Dinner Saturday, December 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Commodore Barry Arts & Cultural Center (the Irish Center), 6815 Emlen Street in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. All proceeds benefit the Gaelic Athletic Association Scholarship Fund in Philadelphia. You must purchase tickets in advance. Ticket prices are $40 for adults, $10 for 17 and under.
