This coming week, there’s a lot to be thankful for—including some night-before-Thanksgiving Irish activities sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
One quick reminder: Sunday night, the 18th, starting at 5 p.m., we’re celebrating the contributions of four of our favorite peeps at the Delaware Valley Irish Hall of Fame Dinner, at the Commodore Barry Arts & Cultural Center (the Irish Center), 6815 Emlen Street in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. Honored will be irishphiladelphia.com founding editor Denise Foley, Pearse Kerr and Sister Frances Kirk, SSJ. Receiving the Commodore John Barry Award will be Sister James Anne Feerick, IHM. On Thanksgiving Eve, you’ll have a lot of choices:
- Celtic Country star Nathan Carter appears at the Irish Center. The show starts at 8 o’clock. More here.
- At Hanrahan’s Irish Pub, 690 Burmont Road in Drexel Hill, the Irish band Round Tower gets your happy hour going from 6 to 9 p.m.
- Austrian Village, 321 Huntingdon Pike in Rockledge, hosts Celtic Connection from 7 to 11 p.m.
- Check out Thanksgiving Eve with the Shantys at Glenside Pub, 122 South Easton Road in Glenside, from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The fun continues later in the week when Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones appear at the MacSwiney Club, 520 Greenwood Avenue in Jenkintown, Friday, November 23. The show starts at 8 p.m. Seating is limited. Call 215-576-9290 for info.
Dust off your dancing shoes! The 130th Annual Philadelphia Donegal Ball is Saturday, November 24, at the Irish Center, featuring the selection of the 2019 Mary From Dungloe. Music will be provided by The John “Lefty” Kelly Band from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $25 per person, $20 for students. Dinner is available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at additional charge.
