Put up your dukes! This Saturday quite a few people will be doing just that at the Young Irelands Gaelic Football Club’s “Fight Night” fundraiser at The Irish Center in Philadelphia. There will be a real ring, real referees and real fighters. And yes, real blood. It’s real boxing. It happens.
You’re a lover, not a fighter? Well, Jamison is The Red Rooster in Philly on Saturday night. You’ll love their brand of Celtic rock. They’re also the only band in Philly whose fiddler is sometimes airborne. Said fiddler CJ Mills will also be at Reedy’s on Frankford Avenue on Friday, April 15, as part of Slainte, with Frank Daly, his Jamison bandmate.
There will be a different kind of fighting this Sunday at the Plough and the Stars on Second Street in Philly as the Glasgow Celtics take on arch rivals, the Rangers, on the big screen at the pub, home of Celtic supporters’ club the Second Street Plough Bhoys. Do not, I repeat, not wear your Rangers’ jersey. (Actually you can, but you won’t be on home turf, so to speak.)
On Monday, the monthly senior luncheon takes place in the Barry Room at noon at The Irish Center. To reserve a spot, call the Irish Immigration Center at 610-789-6355. There’s a free lunch on Wednesdays for seniors at the Irish Immigration Center at 7 S. Cedar Lane in Upper Darby. It’s a lively bunch of folks!
Coming soon: the 15th Annual Rose of Tralee Selection takes place Saturday, April 16, at the Radnor Hotel; Mick Moloney, Robbie O’Connell and James Keane are in concert at the Irish Center on the 16th as well, and there’s a Duffy’s Cut event featuring Doylestown Brewery’s Duffy’s Cut beer on April 17.
