How to Be Irish in Philly

How To Be Irish in Philly This Week (And Beyond)

If the “blizzard conditions” prediction comes true, chances are you’ll be spending a good part of your weekend sitting at home, eating French toast and drinking wine, when you’re not digging out.

That means that even though there are a few things on the “How to Be Irish” calendar, call first before you head out to an event. The Jamison show at Brittingham’s has already been canceled for Saturday night, as has Saturday’s indoor Delco Gaels’ session at Maple Zone in Garnet Valley. You can catch at least some of Jamison next Thursday at Kildare’s West Chester. That would be Slainte, featuring Jamison’s Frank Daly and CJ Mills, the amazing flying fiddler. And there’s another indoor session for the Gaels on February 6.

Coming up in the next few weeks: Singer Mary Courtney will be at Trenton’s Tir na nOg on January 31; Celtic Thunder’s Emmet Cahill at the Irish Center on February 8, and rehearsals are already underway for the Delco Gael’s spectacular annual fundraiser, Dancing Like a Star, in which 8 couples compete for the right to take home the trophy as best amateur ballroom dancer in the region. They’ll be whirling around the ballroom floor at the Springfield Country Club on Friday, February 19.

Speaking of fundraisers, the Young Irelands Gaelic Football Club is looking for entrants in its third annual fight night, scheduled for April 9 at the Irish Center. Let the club know through their Facebook page that you’re ready to put on the gloves for a good cause.
