How to Be Irish in Philly

How To Be Irish in Philly This Week

Looking for a place to do a little dancing? The AOH Notre Dame Division one is having an Irish session for your listening and dancing pleasure on Saturday starting at 7 PM at their club at 342 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg.

Jamison Celtic Rock is performing at The Red Rooster Inn at 7960 Dungan Street in Philadelphia on Saturday night. One of our Facebook group members just suggested the Irish breakfast at The Red Rooster so you may want to go back on Sunday morning to try it out (they won’t let you sleep there).

On Monday, the Dubliner on the Delaware—a new pub-restaurant in New Hope—launches its every-Monday Irish music session.

On Thursday, it’s Irish Music Thursday at Pub 36 on Frankford Avenue in Philly. On the lineup this week: fabulous duo Frank Daly and CJ Mills—part of Jamison—will be performing as Slainte.

Also on Thursday, get yourself some free Irish step and ceili dancing lessons at Molly Maguire’s Pub in Phoenixville. Free! You can’t beat that.

And catch some fabulous Irish music at The Dubliner on the Delaware  on Saturday where Gabriel Donohue, who has performed with everyone from The Chieftains to Tom Waits, will be the headliner.

On Friday, it’s Slainte again—they’ll be performing at Reedy’s on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia.

Coming up: All-Ireland fiddler Dylan Foley and accordionist Dan Gurney will be on stage at the Coatesville Cultural Center in Coatesville on Sunday, January 17, proving that the Irish music tradition is alive and well in the younger generation.
