The Philadelphia Folkfest is happening all weekend in Schwenksville and your favorite local Irish musician may be there, if not on stage then certainly in the audience or playing around the campfires at night.
The big time for Celtic music is on Sunday from noon to 3 PM when you can hear The John Byrne Band, Cassie and Maggie MacDonald, Tim Britton, The Old Ways, Sylvia Platypus, Mist Covered Mountains and Alan Carr. Wexford-born Irish Mythen is scheduled for Saturday at 11:20 PM.
On Sunday, AOH 61 is holding its annual wiffle ball competition for charity at 4131 Rhawn Street in Philadelphia.
On Sunday, Tyrone Football Club fans are heading to the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum around 10 AM to show their support for their beleaguered team (it’s a long story, and how well they’re playing has nothing to do with it) which faces off against Kerry in the semi-finals in Croke Park in Dublin on August 23. Wear your red and white and pose for a photo with Philly as your backdrop. All around the world, Tyrone fans will be out showing their team the love.
There are finals at the Philly GAA fields in Limerick on Sunday, starting at one.
Cork musician Diarmuid MacSuibhne will be performing at Tir na nOg in Cherry Hill with Bill McNeal, starting at 3 PM.
Coming up on Thursday: Designer Bingo—win designer bags and sunglasses—will raise money for St. Pat’s Donegal Gaelic Football Club at St. Laurence’s Church Hall, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby. Tickets are $30 and includes food, but you can bring your own drinks.
